Label switching over IEEE802.15.4e networks

چکیده
An open issue still to be addressed in low-power lossy networks (LLNs) is how the application requirements, the available transport services, the network layer routes, and the data link-layer resources are mapped efficiently. This can be explained by the fact that, in most LLNs, link-layer resources cannot be easily managed; this results in a best effort IP layer, and traffic engineering performed solely through flow control at the transport layer. The new IEEE802.15.4e standard defines a link-layer mechanism by which motes in the network synchronise and communicate by following a schedule. Each slot in that schedule can be seen as an atomic link-layer resource, which can be allocated to any arbitrary link in the network. The schedule can be built to match the bandwidth, latency and power requirements of each mote in the network. Managing that schedule is performed centrally in IEEE802.15.4e networks today. This paper explores a solution to achieve the same goal in a distributed manner. Specifically, we argue that this problem is very similar to traffic engineering on today’s Internet. We show how multiprotocol label switching can be mapped to LLNs to manage the network’s schedule. By using the completely fair distributed scheduler, we show by simulation how this novel link-layer resource allocation scheme yields a proper distribution of end-to-end delays among the motes and an average throughput that achieves the 70% of the maximum possible throughput in the worst conditions tested. A Tutorial on Optical Networks
In this half-day tutorial, we present the current state-of-theart in optical networks. We begin by discussing the various optical devices used in optical networks. Then, we present wavelength-routed networks, which is currently the dominant architecture for optical networks. We discuss wavelength allocation policies, calculation of call blocking probabilities, and network optimization technique...
متن کاملCombined Modulation Formats for Ip over Wdm Networks Supported by Gmpls1
GMPLS (generalized multiprotocol label switching) for supporting IP over WDM networks provides quick and efficient forwarding of IP packets because it uses label swapping as a single forwarding algorithm, thus yielding low latency and enabling scaling to terabit rates. Combined ASK/FSK or ASK/DPSK modulation format for payload/label is proposed for labeling IP over WDM networks supported by GMP...
متن کاملA Perspective on Photonic Multi-Protocol Label Switching
We first review the history of MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) in order to later introduce photonic MPLS. As an emerging technology for carrying IP traffic over photonic networks, we next discuss IP over WDM networks based on the MPLS technology (λ-MPLS). Then, an optical code label switching technique and its application to MPLS (OC-MPLS) is introduced. We extensively compare advantages ...
متن کاملMulticast for RSVP switching: An extended multicast model with QoS for label swapping in an IP over ATM environment
The ubiquity of IP associated with the acknowledgment of ATM as a key switching technology has motivated an increasing interest towards the design of a more eecient way of operating IP over ATM networks. This approach is known under the name Label Swapping. A few studies have addressed the primary issue of providing simultaneously quality of service and multicast. We propose a solution where we...
متن کاملMultiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)
Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) is a versatile solution to address the problems faced by present-day networks—speed, scalability, quality-of-service (QoS) management, and traffic engineering. MPLS has emerged as an elegant solution to meet the bandwidth-management and service requirements for nextgeneration Internet protocol (IP)–based backbone networks. MPLS addresses issues related to sc...
